Java code is delivered to a user's computer in compressed code as Java objects. Microsoft delivers Java objects in the .cab format and Sun delivers them in the .jar format. Microsoft Java Virtual Machine accesses .cab files and the Sun Java 2 Runtime Environment (JRE) accesses .jar files to execute the Java code.
